The Fens of Cambridgeshire and East Anglia were the destination for one of 2020VISION£s two main wetland iWitness assignments, undertaken by Chris Gomersall, Andrew Parkinson, David Tipling and Terry Whittaker.
The Fens are an area of low-lying, mainly agricultural land in the eastern central England, where several projects are underway to reconnect and restore this important wetland habitat, 99% of which has been lost to drainage and agriculture since 1600. The principal locations of this iWitness Assignment include the Great Fen project, Wicken Fen, Needingworth RSPB reserve, the Nene Washes (all Cambridgeshire) and Lakenheath RSPB reserve (Suffolk)
Restoration of the wild fen landscape will help protect from flooding, create jobs and tourism, provide local community
