More than just a Peat bog

Peat bogs represent the UK's largest carbon sink (storing 3 billion tonnes of carbon), helping to counter the effects of climate change. They hold vast quantities of water, which mitigates problems of flooding in nearby populated areas. The UK holds 8% of the world's remaining boglands, which are rich in wildlife and in both biological and social history. The two main 2020VISION peatlands projects were the restoration of blanket bog in the Flow Country and restoration of moorland in the Peak District National Park.
