North America - California (111) More files...
Despite being the most populous U.S. state with a prosperous agricultural industry, California is one of the richest and most diverse parts of the world, with natural wonders ranging from towering forests, treacherous deserts, coastal islands, broad mountain ranges and a giant kelp forest. It is the American state with the greatest diversity of terrain and climate, which ranges from Mediterranean to subarctic.

California contains both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States (Mount Whitney and Death Valley respectively) as well as the tallest and oldest trees.

The California poppy is the official state flower, and can be found in great numbers at the peak of the blooming season.
