Doug Allan est un caméraman et documentariste animalier freelance primé de nombreuses fois.
Après une carrière à l’institut de recherche polaire, le British Antartic Survey, cameraman et photographe freelance, maintes fois primé, Doug Allan est devenu un expert en mammifères marins et en prises de vues sous-marines extrêmes, dans des territoires difficiles, comme les régions polaires.
Il a collaboré à plus de 60 films et séries télévisées au cours des 35 dernières années. La BBC, Discovery, National Geographic et de nombreuses autres sociétés de production ont fait appel à ses compétences. Il a été le principal caméraman des célèbres séries Blue Planet (La planète bleue), Planet Earth (Planète terre), Frozen Planet, Life in the Freezer, Ocean Giants et plus récemment, Everest Extreme, pour la chaîne Discovery.
En 2012 il a publié un livre, Freeze Frame, qui illustre son travail dans les régions polaires et relate ses expériences les plus extraordinaires en tant que cinéaste animalier.
Primé 2 fois au prestigieux concours du BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year (1996 et 2002), il a reçu en 1993 une distinction de la Royal Geographic Society, 2 médailles polaires, dont la seconde fut décernée en janvier 2012 par le Prince Charles. Il est titutlaire d'un doctorat honorifique de l’université de Stirling pour sa contribution photographique à la connaissance de la faune et des écosystèmes polaires.
