Doug Allan is a multi-award winning freelance wildlife and documentary cameraman and photographer, who specialises in marine mammals underwater in remote locations, particularly the polar zones. He's been involved with over 60 films and series in his 35 year career, and has worked for the BBC, Discovery, National Geographic, and many others. He was one of the principal cameramen on the BBC/Discovery series ^The Blue Planet^, ^Planet Earth^ and ^Life in the Freezer^ and more recently worked on Discovery Channel's ^Everest Extreme^ and the BBC's ^Ocean Giants^ and ^Frozen Planet^.
In February 2012 Doug published ^Freeze Frame^, a book which celebrates his work in the polar regions and showcases his most exciting adventures in wildlife film-making. He is giving a UK lecture tour in February and March 2012 entitled ^Life Behind the Lens^.
Doug moved into wildlife photography and camerawork after a successful career with the British Antarctic Survey, having spent 10 seasons working in the Antarctic. He has twice won the underwater category in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (1996 & 2002), was awarded the Cherry Kearton Medal by the Royal Geography Society (1993) and has also won 2 Polar Medals, the second of which he received in January 2012 from Prince Charles.
