Alex Hyde is a natural history photographer based in the Peak District National Park, UK. He first developed an interest in photography as a means of getting closer to the natural world. When composing a scene of an insect or spider through his macro lens, he is always struck with a sense of discovery. To this day Alex delights in revealing tiny details of subjects that would be missed by the naked eye. Much of his work involves photographing moving subjects smaller than a grain of rice, requiring highly specialised equipment and a fair measure of patience. In addition to his close-up work, Alex enjoys photographing wild places. Whether it is a local Peak District scene or a tangled tropical rainforest in Borneo, he strives to capture a sense of true wilderness in his compositions. Alex's photographs are used around the world in newspapers, books and magazines including The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, BBC Wildlife magazine and New Scientist.

Teaching is an important and enjoyable part of Alex's business. He runs photographic tours, workshops and one-day courses in natural history photography throughout the year. Additionally, he lectures on the MSc in Biological Photography and Imaging at the University of Nottingham where he also supports ongoing research into spider behaviour with his macro photography.
