Scientifique passionné d’explorations, doublé d’un certain talent artistique, Tim Laman possède un doctorat spécialisé dans les forêts humides. Il utilise son appareil photo pour nous raconter la vie d’espèces sauvages peu connues et vulnérables. Membre de la ILCP (International League for Conservation Photographers), il collabore régulièrement avec la National Geographic Society et le Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Ses clichés ont été publiés dans 21 articles du magazine National Geographic, dont il est également l’auteur pour la plupart. Calaos, singes nasiques, animaux planeurs de Bornéo, mangroves, oiseaux de paradis ; ces espèces n’avaient pour ainsi dire jamais fait l’objet de reportages photographiques auparavant. En 2009 le National Geographic a publié "Face à Face avec les orangs-outangs", un livre sur sa femme, Cheryl Knott, et son travail sur les orangs-outangs en milieu sauvage. Il a pris part à l’expédition RAVE (Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition) pour photographier des primates très rares ainsi que la vie sauvage sur l’île de Bioko en Guinée équatorienne. Tim a gagné de nombreux prix, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Nature’s Best. Avec son sujet sur les orangs-outangs de Bornéo, il a été primé gagnant exaequo dans la catégorie reportage et Wildlife Photographer of the year 2016 toutes catégories. Ce même sujet a également gagné le prestigieux prix Word Press Photo 2016 dans la catégorie nature.
