Eruption of Geldingadalur Volcano in Iceland, seen through heat haze (NB: soft focus). The fissure opened about 700 meters from the original site of the eruption. The area was quickly evacuated by the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR), so that scientists could make a new risk analysis for the area. On Wednesday 7 April the area was opened again for the public. During that night another erupting fissure opened up midway between the original two and the two new ones that opened on Easter Monday. At the moment it is uncertain for how long the eruption will continue, it could be either days or years. Image taken on 5 April 2021.
