Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) tree growing out of joints in carboniferous limestone, Ingleton, Yorkshire, January 2017. The tree has exploited a water enlarged joint or gryke in the limestone pavement and has grown sideways to be aligned with the prevailing wind direction. Ingleborough can be seen in the background.
