Etosha, meaning ^Great White Place^, is dominated by a massive mineral pan surrounded by grass, thorn and mopane savannah. The pan was originally a lake which dried up when its source river, the Kunene, changed course.
Etosha is a place of extremes - either a parched, dusty wilderness in the dry season or a green eden for wildlife in the wet season. Almost all of Africa's charismatic species are encompassed within this national Park, sustained by the perennial springs that form waterholes along the outskirts of the pan.
Former airline pilot Tony Heald and his wife Sharon have travelled widely in Southern Africa and have a special interest in Etosha where they have captured in stunning detail the fauna of this region. Tony's talent for catching animals in action proves that life can thrive even when ravaged by drought.
