Epitomizing the awe-inspiring landscapes of the American Southwest, Arizona contains some of the most spectacular scenery on the continent. Vast canyons, empty deserts and wind-sculpted rocks join towering saguaro cacti and the worlds' largest ponderosa pine forest.

The Southern basin is noted for its desert climate, with exceptionally hot summers and mild winters, while the high country in the north is appreciably cooler, with mountain streams, alpine meadows and snow-capped peaks.

But Arizona is best known for the Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world and an IUCN World Heritage Site. A major attraction to photographers as well as tourists, it is one of the best places to capture the effects of light across the land.
