After an incubation period of 45 to 55 days and several days long ascent through the sand the hatchling Olive ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) emerge from the nest all together. Ostional beach, Costa Rica, November ^^^ They orientate themselves by the brightness of the horizon above the ocean and they are always at risk of being eaten by birds, crabs or later by fish. Being in a large group provides some protection.
