Partly thanks to the local beliefs and food taboo the Bonobo (Pan paniscus) population has survived in this area. One belief is that is a newborn bathes with a Bonobo bone (found in forest from naturally dead animal) then it will pass on power to the child for life and the bone is passed down from generation to generation.
