Caption
Rüppell's griffon vultures (Gyps rueppelli) and white-backed vultures (Gyps africanus) squabble over an elephant carcass (Loxodonta africana), Laikipia Plateau, Kenya. Dozens of vultures can feed on this carcass at once, thanks to the hyenas that have opened it for them. In the background, vultures that have already fed digest their meal in a tree. Thanks to the combined efforts of vultures and hyenas, carcasses are removed from the landscape relatively quickly.
