Spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta), Rüppell's griffon vultures (Gyps rueppelli) and white-backed vultures (Gyps africanus) at the carcass of an elephant (Loxodonta africana), as the night and day shifts trade places at dawn, Laikipia Plateau, Kenya. The elephant was killed by government officials after it killed a man walking home late at night. White-backed and Rüppell's vultures are listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List due to severe population declines caused by loss of their primary food source (dead wildlife) and poisoning by farmers.
