Venus comb seed (Scandix pecten veneris), Europe. The venus comb has two different types of seed: the outermost seeds are carried on a central shaft, which points vertically upwards as the seeds ripen, facilitating wind dispersal. The innermost seeds, which remain attached to the plant, are dispersed when the stem dries and is broken off by the wind.
