White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) horn held in human hand. Rhino horn is trafficked illegally to the Far East to be used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and to feed demand from those who see it as a desirable status symbol. Rhino horn has no medicinal properties. Highly Commended in the Natural World Category of the Sony Photography Awards 2018. Winner of the Environmental Picture Story Category of the NPPA Best in Photojournalism contest.
