Deforestation is a major environmental issue in many parts of the world, leading to erosion and habitat destruction or impoverishment for many plant and animal species. It also exacerbates global warming as burning trees lead to more carbon emissions and the removal of forests reduces the world's ability to absorb carbon monoxide from the atmosphere.
