Owen Newman réalise des documentaires animaliers depuis plus de vingt ans, pour lesquels il a remporté de nombreux prix. Ses photos viennent en complément. Récemment son travail a porté sur des espèces qui n’ont jamais été filmées auparavant en vie sauvage, comme des vues prises au ras du sol d’une colonie de flamants nains nichant sur les boues alcalines et inhospitalières du lac Natron en Tanzanie. Owen est également connu pour ses portraits attachants d’animaux plutôt farouches et difficile à approcher en vie sauvage, comme l’oryctérope du cap, le serval ou le kangourou rouge. Avec sa femme, Amanda Barrett, également son associée et sa productrice, leur travail couvre principalement la faune africaine.
