Distingué 14 fois au prestigieux BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year ainsi qu’au European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Staffan Widstrand a été élu Photographe Nature de l’Année 2001 en Suède. Toujours en quête d’histoires intéressantes, surtout si elles mêlent l’homme et la nature, il s’est consacré, 5 années durant, aux 5 grand carnivores de Scandinavie, le loup, l’ours, le lynx, le glouton et l’homme. Ce travail a été publié dans un livre intitulé « The Big Five », distingué en 1994 par le WWF (Panda book of the Year). Staffan est le membre fondateur d’une association d’écotourisme en Suède. Il a longuement travaillé sur ce sujet dans son pays, mais a aussi beaucoup voyagé, avec une attirance particulière pour les régions extrêmement froides de notre planète.
