Diver catching a Lionfish (Pterois volitans) in collection tube. The Indo-Pacific lionfish are an invasive species on Caribbean reefs and free from natural predators thrive at much higher population densities than on their native reefs. As efficient predators of reef fish, they exert a large predation pressure potentially greatly reducing the numbers of many native reef fish species. As a result they are culled by licenced divers and their fillets sold to restaurants so reducing fishing pressure on native species. East End, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, British West Indies, Caribbean Sea.
