Caption
Historical illustration of primates from Naturliche Schopfungsgeschichte (2nd edition) by Ernst Haeckel, 1870. Haekel was a leading proponent of what is now described as scientific racism and believed in polygenism, specifically that that humans were 12 separate species. This illustration compares humans to other primate species, in this case using poor art to enhance similarities with some humans compared to apes.
