Caption
Emperor penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) jumping out of the water onto sea ice with a tunnel of water trailing from its tail. This indicates that this bird has just released bubbles of air which were trapped underneath its plumage in order to create a water tunnel with less friction. Emperor penguins use this technique in order to accelerate before jumping out of water, Atka Bay, Antarctica.
