The world's largest island is dominated by the world's second largest icecap, in places reaching a depth of 3000 metres. The southern tip of Greenland lies on the same latitude as northern Scotland, but the northern tip of this huge island is the world's most northerly landmass.

The tiny population of Greenland lives around the ice-free coasts, principally on the west coast, where the calving glaciers of Disko Bay are a major attraction to visitors. The Inuit people of Greenland still pursue their traditional hunting and fishing lifestyle, using dog sleds and small boats.
