Staffan Widstrand (Sweden) is a founding member and Managing Director of the Wild Wonders of Europe initiative.

His missions for the project included: Sea eagles and Golden eagles in Flatanger, Norway; Wolves, bears and wolverines in Kuhmo, Finland; Iberian ibex in the Gredos mountains, Spain; Mediterranean plants in Sardinia; Vultures in Spain and Steppe birds and landscapes in Extremadura. ^Large carnivores and large raptors have always fascinated me a lot, and I knew a number of great places where to photograph them. Spain is also a favourite of mine, I speak the language and have been there many times. It is so rich in exotic and unexpected beings and places. And it is the setting of a lot of important conservation successes lately too, like the ibex and the vultures^
