Sven Zacek (Estonia) took up photography in 2003 starting with a digital compact. He found photography so addictive that two years later he started to work as a freelance photographer shooting mainly nature, but also weddings and architecture. He has three photography books published. His mission for Wild Wonders of Europe was Riisitunturi National Park, Finland, in winter.
^I was actually supposed to photograph rodents in Poland, but my wife got pregnant and her due date was the same time I had to do my mission. By coincidence I met Staffan Widstrand in Norway while we were photographing in a Golden Eagle hide and we discussed changing my mission. I expressed my liking for winter and colder temperatures and he found me a mission in Finnish Lapland that was just perfect. Winter Lapland scenery was simply amazing with a huge amount of snow and spectacular Aurora Borealis in the night skies. Furthermore, the Great Grey Owl just left me breathless, she is an awesome creature and to see and photograph her so close was an experience I will never forget.^
