The Mesoamerica hotspot is the third largest in the world, running from central Mexico to Panama and including the whole of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. It has exceptional levels of amphibian and reptile biodiversity and almost 3000 species of endemic plants. The best known endemic vertebrates are the Resplendent quetzal, the Mexican black howler monkey and hte Central American spider monkey.
