The Succulent Karoo Biodiversity Hotspot stretches along the Atlantic Coast of South Africa and Namibia. It has the richest biodiversity of succulent plants in the world and almost 40% of plant species occurring here are found nowhere else. It also boasts high levels of reptile endemism, including two species of tortoise.
